BIO | バイオグラフィー
Yuki Akiyama creates experimental film/video and installation art works that are obsessed with communication and language. Her work can be seen as documentary in that she uses the whole of a person revealing one’s real personality, history and mind by framing them with rules and systems.
She focuses on socially unfit people. She is not interested in individuals but in languages and air that are in between them. The languages and air she has been studying are contemporary dance and Jazz improvisation, architectures, BDSM, social systems, cultural manners and traditions, Japanese and English linguistic sociology, Fashion sociology, etc.
Akiyama was born in Saitama, Japan, a bed town to Tokyo in 1988. She left home at the age of 15 to study in Australia. She came to NY at 18 then to Boston the next year. She graduated with Departmental Honor from Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Film/ Video in 2012. Her work has been shown at festivals and screenings in Japan, Spain, and the United States. She is currently based in Japan.

主に現代社会の人と人の間を主題とし、コミュニケーションと様々な言語を用いた映像作品を制作する。ビデオというメディアにおける「撮影者、被写体、クルー、製作過程、そして観覧者の関係性」をベースに、システムや文化を用いて、人々をバラバラにさせたり、共生させたり、依存させたりする。現代社会における間接的でネガティブな精神的共生と、システムとの調和を考察している。
