Video 1 (3:40)

Yuki and the Mountains One
The piece explore the points of contact in the relationship between a view, self, and a moving vehicle. There is no performance in being an entity itself. Land can be land without people. Land becomes “view” with audience that replaces itself constantly. Will ”Yuki” be Yuki without others?

Video 2 (4:31)
Yuki and the Mountains Two

Using the “translation” nature of language and our perception, the audience is challenged to think about and experience “understanding” the image and being of the video. The image and language in the piece explore the points of contact in the relationship between a view, self, and a moving vehicle. Yuki and the Mountains Two explores the cultural philosophical difference between US and Japan. It shows how each Japanese and American person uses self, material, and frame in trying to make sense a sentence by language construction. English sentence draws the whole that surrounds the dots of words. An American person creates an image for each words to create a whole picture. A Japanese sentence is a line that connects the dots of words and delivers a whole image to a person.

Nature, Culture, Architecture

Nature, Culture, Architecture plays with the layers of the world; nature, culture, and architecture. Architecture is build to serve human movements and inhabitants (nature and culture). After it is build, it becomes a frame of community around which people moves in similar ways both interacting with each other or not. In this video, two architectural projects (the Case Study House Program, 1945- and Japanese Style Decency Walls, 2011) shares a goal that is to provide “a good solution” to the post war and the contemporary problems of “rootlessness”.

Sound, Music, Uniques

-Music ver- or -Practice ver-

Every person in a mass is filled in with contents and walking to their own destinations. How are they all meet in one traffic? Each person build up and practice. They are all separated and unique lone motifs. However they do that so that they keep up with the harmony. For many in the modern society, being an independent man who can manage everything alone to harmonize with the others is valued. Ultimately they are all the same and in a tradition of music. Individual bodies can only make a sound. In one moment, they become solid and visible in the mass and in the next moment they fade, crush, sink, etc. creating a flow of music.

Video 5 (20:46)
Be Friends : Costume Love Story

A relationship starts with facing each other performing a “couple stance” together. It does not need to be genuine at the beginning. They become confederates by being in a style, like costume play. What feeling would be left after the experience of performing a couple seemingly facing each other? This video shows the transformation of the relation of the two lonely children through their fantasy, pretentious fashion, and the reality.

Video 6 (39:39)

no room in room

Using Japanese SM bontage called Shibari, forms of talking, and different kinds of lighting, no room in room touches people’s longing for love. We long for dependence and loss of self in darkness. With healthy love, everything will be visible. In either way, they are “together” and “not together” at the same time.

What reflects the self at home? Nothing reflects the self when the self is unable to address the other and the self either public or private. Mother is supposed to be the image creator and the reflector for the child. Shibari is a kind of ritual that reveals the self only when the you embrace and love both self (both ego and super ego) and the other (and the reality) and realize it in physical reality without words together with the other. However, for people who are unable to identify themselves, SM is extremely addictive and unproductive. They won’t exist as S or M without one another. They are not one or the other but one, although the other can be anyone who make the person “inhuman”. One’s super-ego role is taken by the other so that one cannot question one’s ego.  SM is really for the adults who are independent men and knows love; for those who have gone through training for independence. For others, SM would be a training for dependence and addiction.
